Deswik blends haulage with optimization and material movement
The latest upgrade of Deswik is set to change how engineers plan their mine while considering haulage constraints and landform development.
Due for release in October, Deswik 2018.3 provides an integration layer between the Deskwik.Blend optimization engine, the Deswik.LHS haulage and landform engine and associated Deswik.CAD data, enabling users to optimize mining, haulage, stockpiling and processing decisions each period.
Up until now, mining engineers have had to make these decisions separately, limiting their ability to model the impacts of dump availability, haulage, and landform on mining decisions.
Deswik’s Product Manager Jayne Kato said: “Many mine planners are dissatisfied with using high-level haulage assumptions and cycle times that do not take into account landform development over time.”
“Current haulage modeling solutions do not integrate with a CAD package and allow multiple dump designs and scenarios to be configured to easily evaluate alternate options.”
“We developed the new integration because mine planners need to develop schedules that consider both the mining decision from a source to a stockpile, dump, or process, to best meet site production targets.”
With the new integration, Deswik users are able to run multiple design scenarios and make optimal decisions based on realistic cycle times. Deswik’s Blend-LHS integration is ideal for mine planners seeking to optimize mining and destination decisions to meet site production targets while considering the impacts of landform on cycle times and haulage constraints.
“With our new solution, users can model landform and haulage during the blending process using dump and haul road designs created in the integrated CAD package and report haulage physicals from the same process,” Jayne said.
“They can apply constraints and objectives based on haulage costs and capacities; create multiple dump and haulage scenarios; model landform development during blending and create surfaces; stage plans and other artefacts for downstream processes. Furthermore, these can then be updated during processing, allowing them to understand the ongoing impacts of haulage and landform on site production targets.”
